DRUG ADDICT JAILED FOR ATTACKING DOC
Assault came despite thug suffering broken back in fall
A DRUG addict who fell 30ft from a window has been jailed for 180 days for attacking the doctor who was trying to help him.
Daniel Allen had a broken back, pelvis and ankle but still managed to get up and assault Dr Jamie Morrison when hospital staff told him to stay in bed.
Allen, who also subjected staff to homophobic abuse, tried to leave Dundee’s Ninewells Hospital despite his injuries from the fall.
Sue Ruta, prosecuting, told
Dundee Sheriff Court: “An ambulance was called on June 6, 2019, after the accused – while possibly under the influence of something – had fallen out of a window.
“Due to the nature of his injuries, he was taken to A&E at Ninewells Hospital. He arrived at 10.05am and was admitted with multiple injuries, as he had fallen approximately 30ft. He was sent for a CT scan and had fractured his back, pelvis and ankle.
“He became aggressive towards staff and was demanding to go home. It was explained to him that he must stay in bed as he was trying to walk. On being told this he became highly agitated.
“He informed the doctor he was a ‘speccy p***k’ and said he would find out where he stayed and kill him. In a bid to calm the situation, the doctor approached the accused. The accused grabbed hold of the doctor and aggressively pushed him backwards.”
Allen then directed homophobic slurs at staff who came to help.
The 23-year-old, from Stobswell, Dundee, admitted assaulting Dr Morrison by threatening him with violence, seizing hold of him and pushing him.
He also admitted acting in a threatening or abusive manner.
