Oli: Yogi giving us belief we needed

-

OLI SHAW admits the John Hughes effect is fuelling Ross County’s resurgence – with leaders Rangers next in the Staggies’ sights.

The former Hibs striker netted twice in the 4-1 win but rather than take the plaudits for himself, he deflected praise to the club’s new manager.

Shaw said: “The boys have been in good spirits since the manager came in, despite results not being great up to then.

“Results have picked up and our confidence is high.

“A big win like that is going to give us massive confidence going forward into the next match, away to Rangers.

“The manager is an infectious character and it rubs off on all the boys and the staff. He’s been a breath of fresh air and the boys have really taken his ideas on board. He gives us a game plan to follow and you saw that today.”

Billy Mckay and Ross Stewart have been County’s most potent goalscorers over the previous couple of seasons but Shaw is now top club scorer for the current campaign with eight from just 12 starts.

He added: “It’s all about goals for me and that’s eight for the season.

“I want to build on that. I had a target coming into the new campaign to get into double figures and hopefully I can take it further.

“We knew it would be a tough game against Aberdeen so it’s a massive three points and to score four and personally to score two means it’s been a good day all round.

“I thought I had my hat-trick at the end but I’m happy. The early goal in particular gave us confidence to go on for the rest of the game.”
