Inaki knocks over Barca as Bilbao party

-

INAKI WILLIAMS bagged a stunning extra-time strike to snatch the Spanish Supercup for Athletic Bilbao in an epic 3-2 win over Barcelona.

The Spain forward rattled home in from the edge of the box in the 93rd minute to stun Ronald Koeman’s superstars.

Antoine Griezmann had given Barca the lead early on but Oscar De Marcos tied it up before the break.

France ace Griezmann restored the Nou Camp side’s lead and they looked to have won it until Asier Villalibre struck in the dying seconds to take the game to extra time.

Williams’ magic was then enough to seal a first trophy for Bilbao since 2015.

In Italy, Rino Gattuso’s pasta party paid off as Napoli beat Fiorentina 6-0.

Lorenzo Insigne scored two, beat four men to make another and was booked for diving in a one-sided encounter.

Napoli boss Gattuso had organised a team bonding meal with his players at a restaurant on Friday.

The former Rangers midfielder reckons it helped loosen up his squad and prepare them for their stunning victory in Naples.

Gattuso said: “I saw the guys were tired mentally and it was right to have a plate of pasta and a glass of wine together and reassure them.

“It was said I was angry with the team and the team was angry with me - I know the relationship I have with these lads regardless of the stories people tell.”

In the late game, Inter Milan dealt a massive blow to Juventus’ title hopes in a 2-0 win. Arturo Vidal broke the deadlock in just 12 minutes wiith Nico Barella adding the second after the break.

Juve are now fifth and seven points off the pace with Inter level with AC Milan at the top, having played a game more.

In Germany, Bayern Munich bounced back from their shock cup exit with a 2-1 win at home to Freiburg.

The Bavarians went ahead after seven minutes as Robert Lewandowski became the first Bundesliga player to score 21 goals in the season’s opening 16 matches.

Freiburg struck against the run of play from sub Nils Petersen’s diving header at the far post in the 62nd minute.

But Thomas Muller snatched the winner in the 74th, drilling after a Leroy Sane layoff from Kingsley Coman’s cross.

In France, Lille’s Jonathan David struck late to secure a 2-1 home victory against Reims as they kept up with Ligue 1 leaders PSG.

Arber Zeneli’s cross squeezed in to give the visitors the lead but Jonathan Bamba levelled three minutes into the second half.

And in added time, David pounced to tuck home the rebound to a Xeka strike.

In Holland, Ajax new boy Sebastien Haller proved the assist for Ryan Gravenberch’s goal in a 1-0 win over Feyenoord.

It was the Ivorian’s third assist in three games so far, having found the back of the net once.

The result keeps leaders Ajax three points clear of Vitesse.
