PALS’ GRIEF

-

Jonathan Watson: “I’ve lost a pal. Andy and I shared so many happy times, especially at the start of our careers. Along with everyone involved in the early days of The Comedy Unit at BBC Scotland, I have a load of happy memories of working with Andy… great laughs and even greater nights out. I’ll miss him very much.” Elaine C Smith: “We are all shattered at this terrible loss and still in a state of shock. Andy was in my life and my family’s life for over 30 years. No one made me laugh like Andy Gray as a friend or a performer. I loved him dearly.” Robert Carlyle: “One of the loveliest, sweetest, funniest actors I ever had the pleasure to work with. So sad and such huge loss to his loving family and friends.” Nicola Sturgeon: “So sad to hear this. Andy was a legend of the Scottish acting community, from City Lights, to panto, River City and so much more besides. Greg McHugh: “Absolutely gutted. Even more so for family and those who knew him best. He made me laugh so much.” Tom Urie: “I never, ever heard anyone say a bad word about Andy Gray. A true gentleman and a huge loss to Scotland. Love to his family and pals.” Sanjeev Kohli: “Andy Gray was a huge presence. Huge heart, huge brain, huge spirit, high passion. And he will be hugely missed.” Janey Godley: “Heart broke, he was such a big presence. I will miss Andy, sending love to his family and friends.” Fred MacAulay: “A genuinely lovely man and as well as being a great actor was a natural wit. Condolences to all his close friends and family.” Tam Dean Burn: “At drama school Andy had us in stitches for hours while he improvised comedy routines. Was to paint my left pinky nail purple when I finished filming today as his family have been doing to show support. I still will.”

Scottish Culture Secretary Fiona Hyslop:

“His family will sorely miss him but Scotland will also miss one of its best-known sons of stage.” Steve Carson, BBC Scotland director: “On screen and in person he could always make you laugh and was one of the kindest people to have around on any production.” Fiona Gibson, King’s Edinburgh boss: “We are absolutely devastated. We will all remember Andy with love, a smile and affection for the many years of fun, friendship and brightness he brought to all our lives.”
