Nothing better than a quality joint of meat

COUNTRYFILE host and farmer Adam, 55, tells us how he spends weekends with wife Charlie and their two children on their Cotswolds farm.

I USUALLY film for Countryfile on Mondays and Tuesdays and I’ve been working on some Channel 5 programmes. But quite often my Fridays are spent working on the farm.

I always have a catch-up with my business partner, Duncan Andrews, on Friday mornings before anything else. I kick-start the day with cornflakes and a cup of tea before I take the dogs for a walk, then I start work at eight o’clock. I’ll meet our livestock manager and we will talk about the work that’s due or what I can do to help the person on duty that day.

When the Cotswold Farm Park is open, I’ll go down and meet the team there. I’ll also make the effort to show my face and meet some of our visitors. On the farm, I usually try to be done with work by six and go home to begin the weekend by spending some time with my family. Once I’ve chilled out for a bit, I’ll crack open a beer and watch the telly.

On Saturdays I’m usually up by half seven. I’ll take the dogs out. After that I’ll have breakfast and catch up on emails. Then I’ll get cracking with some jobs. A bit later I’ll go on a nice long walk with my partner Charlie. In the evening we usually treat ourselves to a takeaway.

We try to have a Sunday roast with the family. There’s nothing better than having a really goodquality joint of meat, all the local vegetables and enjoying good conversation.

We’ll all sit down to watch a film or some television then I’ll check the diary and make a plan for the week. Luckily for me at the moment, we’re filming on the farm.

A Year On Adam’s Farm by Adam Henson and Rachael Saunders (£9.99, Puffin), out March 11.
