Raith play like Barca then go backwards

-

JOHN McGLYNN admits he doesn’t know whether he’s going to get Barcelona or Broomhall Saints from his Raith side week to week.

But he insists he would happily accept something in between against Alloa this afternoon.

Since their Boxing Day victory over the Wasps, the Stark’s Park outfit have followed every single win with a defeat. McGlynn said:

“We’ve been up and down and that is where the frustration and the disappointment comes from.

“I don’t know if I’m going to get Barcelona or Broomhall Saints. That’s what a manager needs to know now.

“I don’t know if we get carried away when we win and think the next game’s going to just happen for us, without us actually having to concentrate and applying ourselves properly.”

Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with Caley Thistle took basement boys Alloa to within four points of Ayr in their battle to beat the drop.

Wasps defender Scott Taggart said: “It’s still within our hands. We know we’re capable.”

JIM GOODWIN is worried Ross County could knock St Mirren’s drive towards a top-six spot seriously off course.

The Buddies head into today’s clash on the back of four successive draws, while John Hughes’ relegation-battling Staggies arrive in Paisley buoyed by a significant win over Celtic.

With just three games left before the split, the Saints are still in the driving seat for a top-half finish.

Goodwin is targeting two wins to get the job done and with a daunting trip to Ibrox up next week he knows returning to winning ways against the Staggies could be crucial to staying in the top six.

“They’ll have taken great confidence from beating Celtic,” he said. “The atmosphere up in Dingwall this week would have been great.

“You’ve got to give great credit to County’s players for hanging in there. They made it very difficult for Celtic to break them down and we expect something similar.

“I’m not expecting them to sit as deep as they did. I think they’ll be coming here believing they’ll get something from the game.

“It wouldn’t suit them to come here and sit in against us because I think John Hughes will be wanting to take us on and go for all three points.

“I’m going with a very offensive team, one I believe can cause them serious problems. Hopefully that comes to fruition.”
