handpicked to take charge of the Athens derby clash between Panathinaikos and Olympiakos.

But Stewart’s fellow linesman David Roome tested posted for Covid and all officials should have been isolating.

The SFA had to apologise to both clubs and Ross said: “It wasn’t great, they acknowledged that. There have been a lot of things over the season that people have made entirely innocent mistakes over and I don’t think this was anything other than that as well.

“I’m not looking for anyone to be heavily chastised. I just hope they bear that in mind when somebody else makes a mistake.

“I was comfortable in that we were not at any risk.”

Meanwhile, the suspended leagues in Scottish football have been given encouragement that a resumption is close. National clinical director Jason Leitch said: “I don’t think we know exactly when but there are plans for training to commence soon.

“We are very keen to get, particularly, the women’s game back. I’m hopeful for an outcome that will at least allow some of that to start very soon.”

SCOTT ROBINSON and Marvin Bartley are expected to be fit for Livingston’s Betfred Cup Final against St Johnstone at Hampden.

The pair returned to training earlier in the week after missing the draw with St Mirren.

Jack Fitzwater is back from suspension to leave long-term absentees Alan Lithgow (hip) and Keaghan Jacobs (foot) the only players missing for the Lions.

Saints’ Murray Davidson has a 50-50 chance of being fit for the trip to the National Stadium after a small setback in his bid to recover from a calf problem.

David Wotherspoon has recovered from a groin problem to boost the Perth club’s trophy bid.

Gerrard wasn’t going to cut off his nose to spite his face. The players made a huge mistake and got backsides booted. But good players get more leeway when it comes to stepping out of line. Nathan Patterson’s response suggests he got the message.

Needs must. His priority is to get the best results for Rangers and with James Tavernier injured and Leon Balogun struggling with a niggle, he had to turn to Patterson. If Patterson wasn’t there, then Gerrard would have had a bigger problem.
