Parker is still seeing upside in drop fight

-

SCOTT PARKER claims Fulham have “momentum” in the fight to avoid relegation after moving to within three points of sliding Brighton and Newcastle.

The Cottagers dominated a poor Palace side and fired in 16 shots without finding the net but they’re now five matches unbeaten and have not suffered defeat in their last seven Premier League away games.

Only Manchester City have a better recent defensive record.

Fulham remain in the drop zone and face Tottenham and Liverpool in their next two games but Parker said: “Momentum is firmly with us. I believe in this team and the team believes as well.

“We’ve shown over the last 17 games that we can compete against any team in this division.

“I’m hoping it’s not going to be any different in the fixtures coming up. I believe we can beat Spurs. We can go into Thursday’s game and cause them problems.”

Fulham’s final game of the season is a potential relegation play-off at home to Newcastle on May 23.

Parker’s team will be well clear of the drop zone by then if they can start converting their possession and chances into goals.

Vincente Guaita made a superb one-handed save from a Josh Maja header from six yards out after 68 minutes when the on-loan Bordeaux ace had to score.

Gary Cahill bravely blocked a Joachim Anderson shot when an Ademola Lookman set-piece caused chaos.

Palace boss Roy Hodgson said: “Absolutely Fulham can stay up but I’m also aware they’re creeping up behind us. If we want to keep that gap, we’re going to need to win games.”
