LINE OF THE DAY

- BY ALAN MARSHALL

Boris Johnson vows to “bring the World Cup home” after it catches his eye by slapping on some make-up and a blonde wig.

JON GUTHRIE admits Sunday’s Hampden heartbreak against St Johnstone was the most sickening afternoon of his career.

But the Livingston defender reckons ending Rangers’ undefeated Premiership streak would be the perfect medicine.

Guthrie, a mainstay for the Lions, was the man outmuscled by Shaun Rooney for the only goal of the Betfred Cup Final – one of the few times an opponent’s got the better of him at a set-piece.

As the dejected stopper sat on the national stadium turf after the fulltime whistle, he knew a golden opportunity to become a Livi legend had come and gone.

And Guthrie said: “I’d be lying if I said everyone was bouncing around the place in the 24 hours after the final.

“Sunday was a tough day for us – the hardest I’ve had in my career. So it’s probably a good thing we have a game.

“That’s taken our focus away from Hampden and given us something to look forward to. We’ve just got to forget about the final and put it to bed.”

Inflicting a first league defeat on Rangers this term would not only be a feather in Livi’s cap – it would mathematically assure them of a second successive top-six finish — which is a remarkable achievement given the club’s modest resources.

Guthrie said: “We need to move on from it and get that top-six finish secured as soon as possible now.

“Would being the first team to beat Rangers make up for losing the final? It would go some way towards it. If we could be the team to put a stop to that record it would be amazing.”

If Livingston – who held Ibrox men to a 0-0 draw last August – are to halt the Gers juggernaut, they must find a way to shackle a resurgent Alfredo Morelos, with six goals in nine games.

Guthrie said: “I love it! These are the games you want to be involved in, testing yourself against the very best. That was something I didn’t have the chance to do in England.

“Morelos is always going to be a threat because he’s physical and awkward but we’ll be doing our best to stop him, not just as a back four but as a whole team.”

Manager David Martindale reckons an on-pitch debrief moments after losing to the Saints, must set the tone for the rest of the campaign. He said: “I told them it is done and they can’t let the final define our season. You have to turn a negative into a positive.”

Killer Sudoku is based on the traditional sudoku grid and every column, every row and every 3x3 box must contain the digits 1 to 9. But there’s a twist — the dotted squares must be filled with numbers that add up to that in the left corner. Solutions on back page of pullout
