Coleen: I’ve seen doc about having double mastectomy Star fears cancer ‘curse’

- BY MARK JEFFERIES reporters@dailyrecord.co.uk

COLEEN Nolan has met with a specialist to discuss having a double mastectomy – as she fears the family is “cursed” with cancer because of a hidden gene.

Her sisters Linda and Anne Nolan have both been receiving treatment for cancer, while sister Bernie died in 2013 from cancer.

The singer and Record columnist has previously said she was thinking about a mastectomy but has now been in for talks with doctors.

Coleen, 56, said: “I’m seriously looking into elective mastectomy. I’ve spoken to a specialist. I’ve said, look what are my chances of this and he said, ‘Incredibly high,’ and although we don’t carry the gene – the known gene BRCA1 and BRCA2 – he said, ‘It will be gene related somewhere, it will just be a gene we haven’t found.’”

Speaking on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories, Coleen is also emotional as she watches a video message from sister Linda, who admits she fears dying.

Linda’s cancer battle began in 2006 when she learned she had breast cancer.

She was then diagnosed with cellulitis and lymphedema in her arm in 2007 and secondary cancer in her pelvis in 2017. In March 2020, the singer was told that her liver was now affected by cancer and underwent chemotherapy until September.

Coleen said of Linda: “She’s always strong and is always positive. That’s the first time I’ve heard her say that she’s scared of dying and doesn’t want to die. And that she was crying. That’s what hit me because she always puts on this really brave attitude.” ●Piers Morgan’s Life Stories airs tonight at 9pm on STV.
