DEVLIN: GOAL WAS JET SET

-

NICKY DEVLIN has joked he did all the hard work for Jay Emmanuel-Thomas’ Thierry Henry-esque stunner at the weekend.

Towering Englishman JET lit up Livi’s 2-1 win over Hamilton with a memorable opener, flicking up a Devlin pass with his right foot before spinning and volleying the ball into the top-corner of the net with his left.

Although EmmanuelThomas’ effort was from inside the box, it drew comparisons with his ex-Arsenal team-mate’s goal from distance against Manchester United.

And Devlin will happily take the assist. He joked: “I put it on a plate for JET, didn’t I? He couldn’t miss!

“No, I just did a wee bit towards that goal. You just don’t see that sort of thing from many people playing in this league – to produce something like that.

“We know JET is capable of doing things like that and it’s about us supplying him. We just need to give him the platform to perform most weeks.”

The victory over Accies, which halted a six-match winless run, saw Livi cement their place in the top six for the second successive campaign.

And while their lofty standing belies their modest budget, Devlin says they are living up to the ambitious goals laid out when he joined from Walsall in 2019.

He added: “It’s a brilliant achievement and when I signed Davie Martindale and Gary Holt – the manager at the time – made it clear that the top six is where they wanted the club to be.

“They believed there was an opportunity to do that and the last two seasons we’ve done that.”
