I HIT THE LOCKDOWN JACKPOT
Jaye enjoys a year of Covid-free fun
SCOTS vlogger Jaye Tremble “hit the jackpot” after getting stuck in New Zealand by accident at the beginning of the pandemic. The 22-year-old has only spent two months in lockdown since the Covid outbreak last year. Jaye, from Irvine, spent 2020 going to festivals, nightclubs every weekend, and travelling in a camper-van before getting a job at a kiwi fruit farm. Jaye said: “I honestly feel like I’ve hit the jackpot for moving here. “I’ve travelled all over New Zealand. I’ve literally seen more of this country than I’ve seen of Scotland. “I’ve been skiing, paragliding, dolphin watching, climbed volcanos, been to four festivals. “All nightclubs have been open, most weekends I go out it’s been mobbed with people in and out the bars.
“On occasions we’ve had to socially distance but it’s only happened twice for one week.
“But I do miss crisp cold mornings, funnily enough, and Chinese takeaways – they’re just not the same over here.”
Jaye arrived on February 18, just three weeks before New Zealand plunged into lockdown. She booked a flight home but it was cancelled, which she thinks was a blessing in disguise.
Jaye stayed with family for a while and by June 8 was free to “mingle” again.
She lived in a campervan for months while travelling and now has an apartment.
Family and friends follow Jaye’s adventures on her YouTube channel.
She said: “I miss them loads but I’m definitely in the right place for the time being.”
