Fans can’t afford to score own goal

-

EVERYONE knows there is no such thing as a meaningless game between Celtic and Rangers.

The league may already be decided but that won’t make tomorrow’s match at Celtic Park any less intense.

We can savour the action while watching it all unfold from the safety of our own homes.

It bears repeating that Scotland remains under lockdown. The Stay at Home rule remains in place until at least April 2.

No fans will be allowed in Celtic Park – so there is no point in hanging about outside the stadium before or after the match. Large gatherings are against the law. No one wants to see a repeat of the crowds that gathered in George Square or outside Ibrox Stadium earlier this month.

Following the large-scale title parties in Glasgow, we had the sorry prospect of police officers having to self-isolate.

Removing frontline emergency workers during a pandemic is not a great look.

It is in everyone’s interests to let Sunday’s game pass off without incident.

As Barry Ferguson says in his Record Sport column today – leave the battles to the players.

Scottish football has already been warned by the authorities too many times for lockdown breaches.

While the league winds down, the Scottish Cup has still to be played for.

After that there are the European Championships to look forward to.

There’s much to savour for supporters of all clubs if we stick to the rules.

Let the players do their talking on the pitch.
