Say goodbye t composite bonds and hello to more natural teeth

Molly-Mae Hague is just one of a host of celebs going for a more natural look, says Anna Burnside

LOVE Island star Molly-Mae Hague has ditched her fake smile and returned to her natural teeth. The social media sensation has had her composite bonds removed, not long after dissolving the fillers in her lips and cheeks.

She’s far from the only celebrity to dial back the tweakments – but she started getting lip fillers as a teenager, then found fame on reality TV with an overblown, artificial look. Now 21, she is gambling that her fans will support her move back to her natural appearance.

Molly-Mae said on TikTok: “On this journey to becoming more natural, I decided it was time for one more change. Goodbye composite bonds, hello natural teethies.”

The fillers in her lips and cheeks went last year, as she admitted “going overboard” with injectables after winning Love Island in 2019.

She’s also had her hair extensions removed and now has a shoulderlength bob.

Celebrity facialist Nicola Robertson welcomed the star’s decision to dial back the injections. She said: “I personally like this more natural look. She is beautiful and I don’t think she ever needed this done, especially at such a young age.

“I think she is a better role model to her young followers for taking on this new approach to her image.” While some famous faces, such as Katie Price, continue with the gleaming veneers and pneumatic lips, others are turning their back on extreme treatments. Gemma Collins has had her own botox and fillers dissolved and is urging others to do the same. She said on her podcast: “I see a lot of stuff where people are changing their faces so much and it just doesn’t look right. We should be working on our inner beauty and what our mammas and fathers created us as. “You have to stay natural and I am hoping there is going to be a movement soon where everyone is beautiful and a lot of the young guys and girls will know you’re accepted if you don’t have pumped up lips and cheeks. It’s just bizarre.” Megan McKenna had her lip fillers dissolved after she said she had “lost sight of what a normal face looked like.” Amy Childs, Shelby Tribble and Lauren Pope have all had similar treatments undone. Nicola thinks Molly-Mae is ahead of the curve by

toning down her teeth, and that others will soon be doing this too. Her cosmetic dentist colleagues call extreme veneers and bonds “Turkey teeth" because so many people travel there to have the procedure done on the cheap. They expect the fashion to change soon and people with electric white smiles to want something less dazzling and fake. She said: “Several celebrities have already dissolved their lips and I think we can expect to see more of this. It’s definitely a trend, influencers showing the real side to social media. for every picture posted, there will be more that don’t look so perfect. influencers are now highlighting the difference that certain poses and filters can make . "it's been smoke and mirrors for so long it’s great to see this reality.” Fillers based on hyaluronic acid can be dissolved with another injection. Others types can take up to five years e naturally. At Nicola’s Falkirk clinic, Skin Geek, clients are requesting less extreme looks. She said: “People want their lips to have volume but at the same time to look natural. For every 10 clients that get their lips dissolved, nine of them filler back in. Just not as much and in a better shape. "There are other salon treatments that promise fuller lips but I personally haven’t seen anything that will give the same long-lasting results as lip fillers.

“As for fuller cheeks and wrinklerelaxing effects, there are lots of options available to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and give a more sculpted look. Collagen stimulating treatments like radio frequency, laser and microneedling are the most popular in my clinic.

“Microcurrent treatments are also very popular, using a machine which uses low levels of an electrical current to stimulate the muscles. It’s like taking your face to the gym.

“Unfortunately, none of these are as instant as a 15-minute appointment for filler or wrinkle-relaxing injection. They take time and are generally more expensive in the long run. Although, on the plus side, these treatments improve other aspects of the skin and face.”

Nicola said that having cosmetic procedures has become so common that people have become blasé about it. Then, when it goes wrong, they want to go back to their natural features.

She said: “Having wrinkle-relaxing injections and fillers is a big decision and I don’t think people take enough time to consider it.

They also don’t research the injector enough. Even though these tweakments are not permanent, they are still a big deal and there are definitely things to consider and understand before deciding to jump in.

“With lip filler, the results you want don’t always happen overnight. It can take a few appointments and therefore be more expensive than anticipated. Any professional injector will explain this and might recommend multiple sessions. The final result will then be much more natural and the need for having them dissolved greatly reduced.

“When done properly, tweakments should be natural and make the client look a better version of themselves, instead of altering their face.”

Nicola hopes Molly-Mae will be the first of many to revert to the natural look, adding: “There is so much pressure on young girls to look a certain way.

“The more influential people on social media who follow this trend, the better.”
