A 10-year-old boy with facial disfigurem­ents that have so far required almost 30 operations takes on a whole new challenge when, after being home educated his entire life, enters mainstream school for the first time. As he struggles to fit in, his fellow pupils and the community are forced to learn the power of compassion and acceptance. Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson and Jacob Tremblay star.

GODZILLA SKY ONE, 8PM

A giant mutant lizard spawned from an atomic test rampages through the streets of New York, defying the combined might of the US army and navy as it searches for a quiet place to hatch its eggs. A bookish radiation expert and a shady French secret agent join forces to defeat the creature. Hollywood remake of the Japanese monster adventure, starring Matthew Broderick and Jean Reno.

A Hong Kong detective is sent to Los Angeles to investigat­e a kidnapping, but the local authoritie­s worry that his presence in America might spark an internatio­nal incident and assign a loud-mouthed and troublesom­e cop to keep an eye on him. Two undercover agents – one working for the DEA the other for the navy – infiltrate a drug cartel, only for the planned sting operation to go disastrous­ly wrong. Both operatives become fugitives and must work together to survive – but both keep their true identity a secret, mistakenly thinking the other is a real criminal. Action adventure, starring Denzel Washington, Mark Wahlberg and Bill Paxton.

THE LONE RANGER BBC FOUR, 9PM

A lawyer is left for dead after an ambush, in which his Texas Ranger brother is killed, but is saved by a mysterious Native American fugitive. Concealing his identity behind a mask, he and his new ally hunt down the outlaws behind the attack – only to find their actions are just part of a larger evil scheme. Western, starring Armie Hammer, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter.

DETROIT BBC TWO, 11.20PM

A group of rogue police officers responds to a complaint with apparent retributio­n rather than justice in mind, launching a raid on a group of African-Americans. Fact-based drama, with John Boyega and Anthony Mackie.
