Alfie goal has taken Celts’only bit of joy Aribo was awful and Brown bossed game

THERE were no major fall-outs during Sunday’s Old Firm clash but that didn’t stop callers falling out with all and sundry.

And let’s face it, would we have it any other way?

John Bruce emailed: “Throughout their awful season Celtic fans have clung to one crumb of comfort to bait Rangers fans with – that Alfredo Morelos had never scored against their club.

“Well, they can’t any longer and it was a goal that ensured Celtic still haven’t beaten Rangers since 2019.

“And it also ensured that the champions’ incredible unbeaten league run continues.

“Steven Gerrard now has two weeks to prepare and lift his physically and mentally jaded squad before the league continues and they take on their next challenge of a league and cup double – hopefully with the return of captain James Tavernier and Ryan Jack.”

Rab Hunter, Dumfries, emailed: “Maybe Willie Collum was getting his own back on Odsonne Edouard for his dive in the 2019 Cup Final where there was clearly no contact but he managed to con Willie into giving a penalty that changed the course of the match.

“Don’t think there was much more contact this time, certainly couldn’t be any less, but looked like yet another act of cheating, this time punished accordingly.”

Brian Quinn, Paisley, said: “Gerrard needs to sign a couple of decent midfielders because his team is being outclassed middle to front against Celtic and can’t rely on their abysmal defending at corners forever.

“Joe Aribo has been poor in every game against them and isn’t the answer and Kamara is usually dominated by Scott Brown.”

Bill Paton, Lanark, said: “The hypocrisy of the Old Firm’s united front against racism is embarrassing when they can’t or choose not to get their own house in order.

“Had fans been there on Sunday we’d have been treated to the ongoing anti-Irish and anti-British chanting, with lashings of bigoted bile. Are we saying that some forms of racism are acceptable? Stamp it all out.”

Bill Duncan, Ellon, emailed: “Someone needs to explain to some players that

Celtic have the dominated games last two but only have one point

points are allocated based on how many goals each team scores, not on how many chances are created or saved. That is why in this Premiership campaign, the leaders are so far ahead of the team in second place.”

Alfie Mullin, London, emailed: “Some daft Celtic supporter on the Hotline said Celtic are a better team than Rangers. That must be why they are champions and have won all the last four matches against them. I don’t think.”

David Bryce, Troon, said:

“Even when up against a knackered Rangers side we can’t beat them. Although Celtic have dominated the last two Old Firm games we only have one point to show for it.

“Welsh and Laxalt were outstanding but our defending of basic set-pieces is absolutely shocking. There can be no way that Kennedy and Strachan are still at the club in any capacity next season.”

The SFA finally responded to the alleged racist abuse of Glen Kamara yesterday but Danny

Robertson, Paisley,

felt they should have acted earlier.

He emailed: “After the latest debacle at Ibrox where a Scottish team is subjected to an alleged racist hate crime, the SFA lost their voice, again.

“Celtic v Vienna, Dundee United v Roma, other prime examples. When is the SFA going to show that it has the will and determination to support and defend the rights of its member clubs?

“European standings, ratings, coefficients are all very well but if the trade-off for this is our ruling body’s silence in ‘sporting integrity’ I’d rather our clubs ceased competing in any competitions run by these organisations and maintained

their pride and dignity.” Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, said: “It’s time for the unethical split to go as it gives some teams an advantage and some a disadvantage.

“Rangers have won the league at a canter so the fact they have already played four of the top six away from home twice means another team gets the benefit of playing a third league game against Rangers at home.

“The bottom six are who I feel truly sorry for as some clubs could have faced Rangers twice at Ibrox and some only once, this being a distinct disadvantage to the clubs only having one home game against teams in the top six.

“Time to expand the league and only play home and away as it would not discriminate.”
