Premiere. A look at the life of astronaut Neil Armstrong. By the late 1960s he embarks on a space mission that leads to him becoming the first man to walk on the Moon. Drama, starring Ryan Gosling, Jason Clarke and Claire Foy.

SHREK ITV2, 7.05PM

Anti-social ogre Shrek resolves to stop an evil ruler from banishing fairy-tale characters to his swampland home. However, the reluctant hero ends up forced to rescue the beautiful Princess Fiona from a castle guarded by a dragon, aided only by a wisecracki­ng donkey. Animated comedy, with the voices of Mike Myers, John Lithgow, Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy and Vincent Cassel.

THE KRAYS ITV4, 9PM

Biopic of the infamous twin brothers who built up a criminal empire in the East End of London during the 1960s. Seizing territory from an already establishe­d rival by force, they quickly rose to prominence in the city’s gangland culture. However, over time the brothers began to clash, while enemies stood ready to bring them down. Starring Gary and Martin Kemp and Tom Bell.

THE ABYSS FILM4, 9PM

An American nuclear submarine is sunk after a collision with a mysterious object, and the US government asks oil workers to help with the rescue. However, when they and a Navy Seal team arrive at the location of the vessel, a series of strange incidents leads to an encounter with aliens living in the depths. James Cameron’s sci-fi thriller, with Ed Harris and Mary Elizabeth Mastranton­io.

A fleet of huge flying saucers launches a devastatin­g and unprovoked attack on Earth. As survivors try to flee the seemingly unstoppabl­e alien invaders, the courageous US president, an ace pilot and a computer genius come up with a plan to take the fight to the enemy and save the human race. Roland Emmerich’s sci-fi adventure, starring Will Smith, Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum.

ROLE MODELS ITV4, 9PM

Two irresponsi­ble salesmen find themselves in trouble with the law after crashing their truck. To avoid jail, they agree to undertake community service looking after a couple of troubled kids. However, it soon seems that going to prison would have been the easier option. Director David Wain’s comedy, starring Paul Rudd, Seann William Scott and Christophe­r Mintz-Plasse.

PHILOMENA BBC1, 11.35PM

A disillusio­ned political journalist helps a woman find the child that was forcibly taken from her in the 1950s when she was sent to a home for ‘fallen women’. Fact-based drama, starring Judi Dench and Steve Coogan.
