Social distance plans blasted by hospitality firms
KEY figures in hospitality have hit out at the Scottish Government over draft social distancing guidelines, saying they could be a “fatal blow” to the industry. The move comes after revellers were pictured enjoying relaxed measures in the bars in Soho, London, at the weekend. Tomorrow, Nicola Sturgeon is set to confirm restaurants, bars and cafes across the country will be allowed to open on April 26. On Friday, the Scottish Government released proposals for hospitality regarding social distancing.
They included a demand that where a hospitality setting operates two-metre social distancing, there would have to be 4.9 square metres around each person in a seated area.
Celebrity Scottish chef Nick Nairn said it could be potentially a “fatal blow” to his industry.
Scottish Hospitality Group, which represents 2000 businesses across Scotland, tweeted: “Beer gardens the size of a football pitch are needed.”
