Summit hopes

-

US President Joe Biden’s two-day summit in Washington this week on climate change may not grab many headlines in Scotland but it is just the start of the journey to the global COP26 conference in Glasgow in November.

The climate meeting between world leaders will put our country at the centre of the world’s attention for a number of days, but it is hoped an agreement will leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.

If COP26 succeeds, it is going to play an important role in helping to reduce the carbon emissions that are doing so much harm to our planet.

New reports show the world is struggling in its efforts to limit rising temperatures.

Douglas Alexander, writing in today’s Record, believes this week’s meeting in Washington could pave the way to a ground-breaking deal in Glasgow.

World leaders have a chance to pass our planet on to the next generation in a much safer state.

They must not fail.
