Sunny delight as weather record looms

- BY PAUL DRURY

SCOTLAND is on course to record a remarkable weather double in the second year of Covid-19 – breaking the country’s sunshine record for the second year in a row.

The 204.6 hours of sunshine seen in 30 days made April 2020 the sunniest April since records began in 1929.

However, the Met Office has confirmed that this month the country has already basked in 90 per cent of the sunshine we expect in a normal April.

Forecaster Sarah Kent said: “The average number of hours of sunshine you would expect in April is 135. Yet already this month, we have recorded 121 hours of sunshine in Scotland and we are not even two-thirds through the month.”
