Wright is not in hair raising form

-

PETER WRIGHT may have to complete the Premier League campaign without his trademark mohawk hairstyle and warpaint.

The ex-world champion, dubbed Snakebite, spends up to three hours being turned into a kaleidoscope of colour by hairdresser wife Jo.

She is in severe pain, awaiting a back op next month, and Wright won’t let her travel to Milton Keynes for the latter stages of the tournament.

Wright will face Nathan Aspinall tonight but he said: “Jo’s health is a worry and she’s my main priority.

“She’s in pain every day and it has been the same since March last year. She tries to get to the darts and do my hair but it’s really hard now. She can’t stand up. Jo has an operation scheduled for mid-May, so I’ve told her, ‘You’re not going, I’ll go and play without my hair done’.”

Wright upped the ante before this year’s Premier League, claiming fivetime winner Michael van Gerwen would not win a TV Major this year.

He has now admitted it was all a wind-up and said: “Of course Michael can win a TV tournament this year.

“I like to fire people up. I do it because I want the player to play well against me. I want them to be playing at their best, then I will often play my best.”
