Tight at the top as City hunt down Ibrox stars

- BY ALISON McCONNELL

CELTIC and Rangers’ women’s teams both warmed up for Wednesday night’s Old Firm game at K-Park with wins against Spartans and Hibs respectively yesterday.

But it was Glasgow City who stole the headlines with a thumping 8-0 win over hapless Motherwell.

Rangers had ended their game at the top of the league but City’s win at Broadwood saw them leapfrog them at the summit as Scott Booth’s side ran riot.

City’s big triumph means that the dominant women’s team in the country are joint top with the same points and goal difference as the Light Blues.

Leanne Ross’s late penalty miss would have enabled them to lead on goal difference.

South African star Ode Fulutidulu netted a second hat-trick for the club in as many outings with City relentless throughout against the Fir Park side.

Rangers enjoyed a 1-0 win over Hibs courtesy of a Lizzie Arnot goal just two minutes after the break. It was a win that was not without cost, however, with Gers captain Brianna Westrup picking up a nasty head knock.

Through in Edinburgh Celtic beat Spartans 5-1 at Ainslie Park.

Sarah Ewens got the opener in the first minute with Celts relentless, the fifth coming in the 86th minute through Chloe Craig’s second of the day.
