Strach: Icon Broonie will be huge loss

- BY DAVID McCARTHY

GORDON STRACHAN believes that Scott Brown should have been kept at Celtic for next season – if the Hoops captain wanted a new deal.

The former Parkhead boss reckons Broonie’s experience would have been invaluable to a new management team on and off the pitch .

And he insists there’s no point in trying to find an identical replacement when the midfielder heads to Pittodrie in the summer.

Strachan, who signed Brown for Celtic, said: “People start thinking: ‘How do they get a new Broonie?’

“But it’s like John Greig or Billy McNeill, you just don’t get one of them.

“It’s important you keep people at the club who understand it, so that when people are coming in you can explain to them by the way you train, how you play, how to understand the city.

“How much did Celtic want to keep him? Only Celtic and Scott know that.”
