Ibrox stars will always zero in on home glory

- BY GORDON PARKS

NATHAN PATTERSON insists Fortress Ibrox was never in danger of being breached as Rangers booked their Scottish Cup quarter-final place.

The 19-year-old turned in another hugely impressive display in an Old Firm win which underlined his potential and he believes every Rangers star played their part in a result which keeps them on track for a coveted domestic Double.

Patterson praised Steven Gerrard’s backline for being on the same page from the first whistle.

The full-back said: “It was great, right from the word go we were on it and every man on that pitch played really well. I thought we deserved the win.

“The plan was just to go after them right from the start and all the boys did that. We were right on the front foot and deserved the goal early on.

“All the players played really well, especially the back four. It was our aim to keep a clean sheet and we knew if we did that we would win the game – and that is what we managed to do.

“We have been really strong at home, it’s a fortress and that is why Ibrox is a hard place to come.

“We knew we had to just keep doing what we were doing, keep making it even tighter so they couldn’t get any opportunities. We wanted to go on to win the game and we have done that.”

Rangers now face St Johnstone on Wednesday in a league clash before hosting the Perth side in the Cup on Saturday and Patterson insists he’s ready for the fight.

He said: “It will be a good challenge but hopefully we can go on and win the games so we go even further in the cup.”
