CELTIC HOW THEY RATED

-

SCOTT BAIN ....... 6

Not a lot he could have done with the goals as the Hoops defence went to pieces around him. Made a couple of solid blocks and was impressive with the ball at his feet as he looked to pass out and get his side up the pitch.

JONJOE KENNY..4

An afternoon to forget for the on-loan Everton man. Couldn’t find much joy pushing up the pitch and often caught in behind on the break, even if the carnage was on the other side of the pitch. The fall guy for the own goal second because he didn’t do enough to hold off Kent.

KRIS AJER ..........

5

Left exposed by Celtic’s full-backs but needed to be stronger and take more of a leading role. Caught in two minds for the crucial second goal and it summed up his afternoon. Needed to take charge but backed off.

STEPHEN WELSH ............... 5

Will be kicking himself at the glaring chance he missed when Celts were 1-0 down, even if there was a slight tug from Filip Helander. He couldn’t wrap his foot around the opportunity and it was another tough learning experience for the 21-year-old.

DIEGO LAXALT

.2 Horror show. Hooked at halftime and was lucky to last that long. Writing was on the wall when Nathan Patterson picked

BROWN

his pocket early on and it only got worse. Was AWOL for the opener and too easily done by Joe Aribo for the second.

SCOTT BROWN.6

This wasn’t the way the captain wanted to bow out in his last meaningful derby. Sold a dummy by Ryan Kent in the build up to Gers’ opening goal and too often swamped as Gerrard’s men sprung on the counter. Charged on as expected but was always fighting a losing battle.

CALLUM McGREGOR .......

6 Tried to spark Celts after going a goal down and made a couple of bursts towards the Rangers box, taking a few potshots on goal. The diamond set up doesn’t seem to get the best out of him as he’s left lingering on the left and that was the area where Steven Gerrard’s men caused grief.

DAVID TURNBULL .........

7 The main creative force for the Hoops and always posed a threat whenever he got his foot on the ball. Linked up well with Odsonne Edouard a few times but the supply line wasn’t flowing and he had to go looking to get involved. A rare bright spot.

RYAN CHRISTIE

6 ........... 6 Tried to set the tone with a crunching tackle on Borna Barisic in the opening 10 seconds but it took until Celts were behind for him to get more into the game. Keen to shoot on sight and constantly switching roles with

Turnbull but Gers got wise to it and closed down the space.

MOHAMED ELYOUNOUSSI

..6 Direct and determined to influence the game and often the most dangerous of the Celtic forward players. Couldn’t find the cutting edge when he needed it though with a glaring second-half chance scuppered by a poor first touch.

ODSONNE EDOUARD ...........

5

Celtic needed a big performance from their striker but were let down instead. Missed an absolute sitter at 2-0 down as he tried to be too cute when he should have burst the net and then fluffed a woeful penalty that would have set up a thrilling last 10 minutes. Hasn’t hit the heights this season.

SUBS: GREG TAYLOR...5

Steadied the ship down the left flank after replacing Laxalt at half-time. Helped create some of the big second-half chances and made a great tackle to prevent a third. LEIGH GRIFFITHS .......... 3 Got in behind Aribo to win the penalty and volleyed over in stoppage time. ALBIAN AJETI ........ 3 Chucked on in the closing minutes but the game was up and there was really no scope to make difference by then.
