Farrell: We can learn from exit

-

STEVIE FARRELL has challenged his Stranraer players to learn from their schooling by classy Hibs.

The League Two promotion hopefuls could be proud of their effort as they kept themselves in the tie until well into the second half.

But ultimately the Premiership high-flyers had too much quality.

Farrell said: “They’re an excellent side, you can see why they’re the thirdranked side in Scotland.

“Their movement is excellent. I’ve just told the players we need learning outcomes after this.

“We shouldn’t be too despondent because our players – particularly our young ones – can learn from the way the Hibs players go about their business and the intensity they play at.

“Their attacking players are very good. They’re always on the move. I’ve told my young players to look at the way they move.”

Stranraer’s best chance of the match came early in the second half when Tommy Orr’s goalbound effort was inadvertently blocked by his own teammate Darryl Duffy.

That would have levelled the match at 1-1 but Hibs went on to double their lead soon afterwards.

Farrell said: “I thought Hibs had brought another centre-half!

“It was going right in the bottom corner. They’re the wee defining moments that can change games but Hibs thoroughly deserved it, no argument about it.

“They’re a very good side. We did well considering it was our fourth game in a week. I can’t be too critical of the players. It was always going to be difficult.

“We played nice football at times but were up against a good side so we have to keep it in perspective.”

Stranraer must pick themselves up for tomorrow’s trip to Albion Rovers as they bid to secure a play-off spot.

Farrell added: “We’ll take a lot from the game and move on to Tuesday now.

“It would be nice to make sure we finish in the top four. We’re in there just now and if we keep acquitting ourselves like that, then we’ll give ourselves a chance.”
