Let’s prove that we are unbeatable

-

SIMON MURRAY admitted the desire to preserve their unbeaten record helped Queen’s Park battle back from behind to beat second-placed Edinburgh City 3-2 at Ainslie Park.

Murray headed in two goals late on to secure the points after Peter Grant had opened the scoring for the Spiders but City led through Liam Henderson and Josh Campbell goals.

The Queen’s hero said: “City are a good side but we were unbeaten and had been focussing on how we’d approach it all week.

“This showed that we can play good football but at the same time it showed that we never give up. We got stuck in when we fell behind and that’s the sign of a good team.

“I missed a chance to put us two ahead earlier on which would have made things a bit easier and at that stage I wondered if it was going to be my day.

“But the gaffer gave me a nod from the sidelines and told me that the goals would come.”

Queen’s now only need a draw at home to Elgin City tomorrow night to be crowned champions and go up to League One.

Stirling Albion pulled level with Edinburgh City after thumping Cowdenbeath 5-1 at Central Park.

Andy Ryan scored either side of Craig Barr’s firsthalf header for Cowden to put the Binos in front with Chris Hamilton adding a third before the break.

Kyle Banner and Dylan Mackin scored in the second half as Stirling moved closer to securing a play-off place.

Annan’s first home win in over a year came as they defeated Brechin City 3-0 to push bottom side City closer to the trapdoor.

Aidan Smith put the Galabank men ahead before Nathan Flanagan’s individual effort gave Peter Murphy’s side a two-goal cushion with Tony Wallace securing the three points before the break.

Brechin ended with 10 men after Abdul Osman picked up his second yellow card with six minutes left.

Albion Rovers extended their unbeaten run to five games as they eased to a 5-2 win at Elgin.

Matthew Aitken opened the scoring for Rovers before Kane Hester levelled. Tom McHale’s own goal put Rovers ahead and Aitken struck again with sub Kyle Docherty bagging a double to put the Coatbridge side 5-1 in front before Connor O’Keefe’s late consolation.
