HELP IS OUT THERE FOR WOMEN WHO NEED IT

-

THE charity which supported Lyndsay through her ordeal yesterday called on the public to open their eyes to signs of abuse.

Mary Beglan, chief executive officer at North Ayrshire Women’s Aid, said there is a service in every part of the country that can help victims escape violent and controlling relationships.

She said: “We don’t just offer refuge accommodation, the support is there and we work in partnership with other agencies to get the best possible outcome for women.

“It’s not necessarily an easy journey but it’s a journey worth making.

“It’s not a working class problem. Domestic abuse is not just something which happens in the pub on a Friday night.

“We would ask you to think about what is happening next door. Do you have a friend who has changed their behaviour in a relationship?

“Women can’t always find their own way here. So if you’re worried about somebody else, come and talk to us. We can offer advice on how you can be the best mother, sister or friend to that person.” ●Women’s Aid 24-hour helpline: 0800 027 1234 or visit www.womensaid.scot
