Covid puts Eve’s bid on ice

-

EVE MUIRHEAD’S winning run at the World Curling Championships was halted after broadcasters in Calgary tested positive for Covid-19.

That saw the postponement of the round-robin fixture between Muirhead’s Scotland team and Yu Han’s Chinese rink and denied the Perth skip a chance to post her fourth straight win.

CYCLING: Geraint Thomas powered to his first win in three years with a powerful ride on the 11-mile final time trial at the Tour of Romandie.

With the 2021 edition of the Tour de

France just seven weeks away, Thomas looks in form to lead the Ineos team.

He said: “Bike racing is about winning. It’s not like I haven’t been performing since I won the Tour – I’ve been up there – but it’s nice to win.

“At the start of the year, I said the goal was the Tour and every race was a build-up to it. I didn’t put too much pressure on myself to perform early but I seem to have come into some good shape pretty soon.”
