DON’T COUNT OUT CHISORA RIGHT NOW

- BY CHRIS McKENNA

DEREK CHISORA has no plans to retire and has called for a rematch with Joseph Parker.

The 37-year-old British heavyweight lost on a split decision to Kiwi Parker at Manchester Arena on Saturday.

The decision was hotly disputed but the card giving Parker the fight 116-111 felt wide of the mark, with the other scoring it in his favour 115-113 a more realistic view of the fight.

The third judge made it 115-113 to Chisora.

Parker was floored after just eight seconds but composed himself to take control in the second half of the bout, although Chisora had the better of the opening six rounds.

It was the 11th defeat of Chisora’s topsy-turvy career, but he is not yet hanging up his gloves.

He warned Parker he will not leave it to the judges next time.

Chisora said: “I’m upset, I did what I felt I needed to win the fight.

“If he is going to give me a rematch then give me a rematch and I’ll blow him out of the water next time. I’ll leave nothing to chance.”

Parker was a picture of calm in the dressing room afterwards. He FaceTimed his family back home in New Zealand after extending his record to 29-2, those defeats coming against Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte, and celebrated as he listened to UB40.

He then went to Chisora’s dressing room to share a Five Guys burger with the Brit, but his thoughts soon turned to the future with new trainer Andy Lee.

Parker said:“There’s a lot of room for improvement.

“I wanted to catch him good but I think the six weeks I had with Andy was good for me.

“I tidied up a few things, worked on my movement but there’s still a lot of work to do.

“Moving from one camp to another, six weeks wasn’t the longest time but we are happy we got the win. It is the start of a great relationship. There are many things he can show me and teach me, I just have to work.”

Parker is aiming to become a two-time world champ but the four belts are set to be tied up in the Joshua fight with Gypsy King Tyson Fury.

Frank Bruno reckons Fury will school Joshua.

Promoter Eddie Hearn is hoping to announce the undisputed heavyweight showdown this week but former world champion Bruno has handed Joshua an early blow.

He said: “My money is going on Tyson Fury.

“He’s a more experienced guy than Anthony Joshua.

“Anthony Joshua still has a lot to learn.

“He’s very game, he is very tough and he trains well but I think Tyson Fury will take him to the cleaners. He’ll take him to the cleaners and take his pants down and smack him. Seriously, he’s going to school him.”

Meanwhile, Katie Taylor is set to return to the ring in the home city of her favourite football team.

The Irish ace edged out Natasha Jonas as she kept hold of her undisputed lightweight crown.

Now promoter Eddie Hearn is plotting her next steps and wants Taylor to fight in Leeds in September.

Josh Warrington is due to face Mexican Mauricio Lara at Headingley, the home of Leeds Rhinos, and Hearn wants Taylor on the card fighting one of the mandatories for her WBA, IBF, WBO and WBC titles.

Then the Matchroom supremo wants her to have a rematch with Jonas or Puerto Rican Amanda Serrano. Taylor, 34, said: “I’m OK to fight any of those big fights.”
