STEVIE SAYS IBROX LEGENDS SO PROUD OF WHAT HIS SIDE HAVE DONE THIS TERM

and previous players and the success of this club we’re trying to respect and add to.

“I’m sure Ally is really proud of the boys’ performance over the season. I certainly am and I’m sure a lot of ex-players and managers are. I just spoke to

Alex McLeish and they’re the reason why it’s so difficult to be at Rangers because of the success and how good they were at doing their jobs on the pitch and as managers.

“It’s our job to carry that on and add to it and we’re striving to be better and we’ll continue to do that.” Gerrard wants to complete the unbeaten campaign and crash through the 100-point barrier.

But he admitted the current 96 was a poignant personal mark to hit with the Liverpool legend’s nod to Hillsborough.

Gerrard said: “There are two more challenges to go and I want to keep them hungry and I want another six points. We’re looking at anything we can grab on to – clean sheets, number of points, number of wins.

“We will use every motivation we can to make sure we finish as strong as we can. Although I

will say 96 points is a special number for me.”

Gerrard shrugged off talk of a Celtic rebuild and insists his side will be even stronger next season. He said: “What happens across the road is not really my business.

“But we’re certainly aware of what’s going on over there and what type of reaction that side will be looking for. We’ll always respect that and prepare for it.

“At Rangers recruitment never stops. I’ve been around the game long enough, even though I’m an inexperienced manager, to know you can’t stand still.

“We’ve still to identify areas of our group where we can help them get stronger because we’re not the finished article.

“Just because we’ve been fantastic in one league campaign and again been impressive in Europe, there are still areas and consistency that we need to strive for. My job and Ross

Wilson’s job with the scouting network is to identify players who can help this group because in year four it’s key we have new faces who can energise not just us but the fans and everyone connected with the club.

“We will be striving to get better.”
