I’m sorry Buddies were so shocking

-

JAK ALNWICK has apologised to St Mirren fans for the toothless display that cost them three points against Hamilton.

The Buddies No.1 was seething with his team’s performance and revealed he’d let the team know his feelings in the dressing room after the match.

Alnwick emerged almost an hour after the full-time whistle to say: “It was shocking. I apologise to the fans who’ve paid money to watch it. It wasn’t good enough on every level.

“You could see Accies were playing for something but so were we. I don’t know if some of the lads had an eye on the semi-final.

“I’ve had a little go in there and there are other lads who’ve had a little go as well because the standards need to be high no matter where you are.

“Whether it’s the last game of the season, you’ve already got seventh or whatever it is, you’ve got to keep your standards high.

“We wanted a good performance going into next week. There’s lads who had an opportunity to stake a claim next week and there were lads staking a claim to stay in the team.

“We were just too far off it all over the pitch. They looked like they wanted it more which we’ve never said this season.

“Today was just too slow all over the pitch and we didn’t get going at all.

“We owe it to the league, to the fans and to ourselves to perform no matter what.

“We made a couple of changes yet still had the quality on the pitch but we didn’t show that. We didn’t get into the game.

“They were fighting for their lives and fair play to them, they pressed us and the two strikers worked tirelessly. They got a couple of scrappy goals and when you’re down the bottom that’s what you need.”
