Jordan has drop of the hard stuff

But County hitman knows the fight for survival is not won yet

-

JORDAN WHITE helped to blast Ross County out of the drop zone but knows they still face a shootout for survival.

The striker scored and set up the other as the Staggies won at Tannadice to take them above Kilmarnock.

White knows his team have put themselves in a good position but the hard work starts now, with bottom side Hamilton up next then a final day-clash against Motherwell.

He said: “It’s massive to get up to 10th but it doesn’t matter if you don’t go and back it up next week. Back-to-back wins have been hard to come by but if we could do that it would be huge.

“I don’t need to tell you how big a game it is against Hamilton but everyone will be ready for it.”

Accies triumphed on their last visit to Dingwall but County won in Hamilton last time out. The bottom side beat St Mirren on Saturday, meaning there are only three points between the bottom three teams.

White added: “You just want them to go away at times! But fair play to them, they keep battling away and got an unbelievable win against St Mirren.

“Their tails will be up when they come to Dingwall. Both teams will fancy it and it will be a great game. We know what’s at stake. At the end of the day you can only concentrate on what you do.”

United started well but it was County who created all the chances. They got the opener when Michael Gardyne found Blair Spittal and his cross allowed White to head in. They added a second when Spittal’s corner was flicked on by White for Alex Iacovitti to net at the back stick. United were a shadow of the team who had put Aberdeen out the Cup and didn’t even manage a shot on target. County could have scored even more. Deniz Mehmet tipped a Stephen Kelly effort on to the bar then sub Regan Charles-Cook hit the post with the rebound. Mehmet also made a decent flying stop to deny White a

ROSS COUNTY second. The striker added: “It had everything from us. We were disappointed last week against St Mirren but against United we did everything brilliantly.

“We got ahead, we didn’t just sit back, we went again and got another goal. We nullified everything they had and it really worked for us.

“It’s massive to keep a clean sheet because they’ve been few and far between this season. It gives the defence a big boost.

“We’re always confident in every game we go into and that’s probably the frustrating thing this season because I don’t think we should be in the position we are.

“But we are and we’ve just got to face it. We showed against United that we’re up for the battle.”

County on this form will be a good bet to stay up but inconsistency has been their downfall. White said: “We’ve had control of games.

“When we drew against Kilmarnock we had control and again to a certain extent against St Mirren. But we’ve just not managed them as well as we did against United.

“It doesn’t stop here for us, we’ve got to keep going again and again and make sure we stay in this league.”

White only got his Premiership chance this season after making the move from Inverness to Motherwell.

But he struggled for game time and it was only when he moved to County in January that he pushed on. Now the 29-year-old has turned out to be a big player for the Staggies.

He said: “I want to stay in the Premiership. I don’t want to drop back down.

“Everybody’s on the same page and wants to stay up – you could see that in our performance against United.”
