Duffy: We’ll give our all to get play-off

DARRYL DUFFY insists it will be a travesty if Stranraer fail to make the play-offs.

The Blues were only seconds from achieving that goal when the striker gave them an 89th-minute lead against his old club Stirling on Saturday.

But sub Duffy, 37, was left gutted as Declan Byrne came off the bench to make it 2-2 for a Binos team also still hoping to get a play-off ticket.

It’s still all to play for as Stevie Farrell’s Stranraer face second-top Edinburgh City in their final match at Stair Park tomorrow night while third-placed Stirling have to sweat it out.

Duffy said : “I’m just disappoint­ed we couldn’t see out the last seconds.

“It makes it interestin­g for the outsider going into Tuesday when pretty much any of the teams up there can get into the play-offs.

“We have worked hard enough but you get what you deserve at the end of the day.

“We’ve been giving everything and need to do that again on Tuesday.

“It’s a great bunch of boys, they all work hard and it’d be a travesty if we didn’t make the play-offs.

“It’s gone from jubilation to devastatio­n in the space of two minutes but we’re still in it. It was a good header and I thought it had earned us the three points but it wasn’t to be.”

It didn’t bode well for Kevin Rutkiewicz’s Stirling when Jordan Allan forced the ball into his own net in the 28th minute.

But a powerful header from Ross McGeachie made it 1-1 just before the break.

Two first-half goals helped Edinburgh City to a 2-0 win over Elgin as they cemented a play-off spot.

On-loan Hibs youngster Josh Campbell put the Citizens ahead before Liam Brown drilled in the second on 38 minutes.

Albion Rovers were held 1-1 at home by Brechin, already confirmed as the SPFL side who will contest the pyramid play-off.

Kieran Inglis converted from the spot in the 55th minute after Sean Slaven was upended to put City ahead. Matty Aitken levelled from a penalty with just five minutes left before Rovers captain Aron Lynas saw red late on.

Annan ended their season in eighth after fighting back to draw 1-1 with Cowdenbeat­h.

Robbie Buchanan put the Blue Brazil ahead but they had Kyle Hutton sent off with eight minutes to go and Kyle Fleming grabbed a late leveller.
