Sicko whose dog had to be put down gets 10-year ban
Neglect so bad pet was emaciated
A CRUEL pet owner who neglected his dog so badly it had be put down has been given a 10-year ban.
Jordan Edment, 19, starved Pakistani Mastiff dog, Rumple, and failed to take him to the vet.
Animal welfare chiefs were sent to Edment’s home after being tipped off by cops amid fears Rumple and bulldog Butch were being neglected.
Rumple, aged two, was found with all his ribs, spine and hip bones prominent and he had trouble using his limbs correctly when found in Wishaw, Lanarkshire.
The pooch weighed less than 40kg – around eight to 10 kilograms lighter than he should have been, and had a high heart rate suggesting dehydration.
Rumple did not respond to the Scottish SPCA’s treatment and was put to sleep.
Edment pled guilty to failing to provide veterinary treatment and a nutritionally adequate diet and was sentenced to a deprivation order and a 10-year-ban.
Scottish SPCA inspector, Heather Lawson, said: “When we attended, we found Rumple to be in extremely poor health.
“All his ribs, spine, and hip bones were prominent and he had a hunched posture.
“The second canine, a Johnston’s bulldog type named Butch, was very lean.
“Both dogs were friendly and very excitable.
“When given a drink of water, both dogs drank vigorously and emptied the entire bowl.”
Lawson revealed other details of their neglect. She added: “It was further discovered that neither of the dogs were receiving any current veterinary treatment.
“Rumple was caused unnecessary suffering because of Edment failing to seek veterinary care and a lack of nutrition.
“Butch was found to be around four to five kilograms underweight.
“Both dogs were taken to one of our centres to receive the proper care and ongoing treatment they needed.”
The inspector, however, said it was too late for Rumple. She said: “Sadly, Rumple’s condition deteriorated and the heartbreaking decision was made to put him to sleep on welfare grounds.”
The SPCA are relieved that Edment has been punished.
The inspector added: “We’re pleased Edment has received a 10-year ban and deprivation order and we hope he seriously reconsiders his ability to care for any animal in the future.
“Butch is still in the care of one of our centres, and this sentencing means we can now find him the loving forever home he deserves.”
