NO SPLIT LOYALTY FOR JAM

- David McDonnell

FORMER England Under-21 star Jamal Musiala insists he won’t be torn tonight as he bids to help Germany end the Three Lions’ Euros dream.

Germany and Bayern Munich prodigy Musiala, 18, was born in Stuttgart but moved to England aged seven, joining Chelsea’s academy a year later.

He played for England up to Under-21 level, even after leaving Chelsea for Bayern Munich aged 16.

But Gareth Southgate, who promoted Musiala to the Under-21s at 17 in the hope it would persuade him his future lay with England, was left gutted when Germany boss Joachim Low convinced him that the country of his birth was the best option.

And despite his ties with England, Musiala – who came off the bench against Hungary to set up the late equaliser which kept Germany at Euro 2020 – insisted he only has eyes on helping Germany reach the last eight.

He said: “I made a conscious decision to play for Germany, but, of course, it’s not a game like any other.

“England is my second home, I’ve lived there for a few years and felt comfortable, know a lot of people, have learned a lot.

“I don’t want to miss any of that. But for me personally, it’s about winning this game in order to get through – what was once isn’t so crucial.”

Musiala has fond memories of playing at Wembley, having scored four times there as an 11-year-old, and is eager to stretch his winning run there.

He said: “I played there twice with my primary school. We won both games, so I hope the next win will follow on Tuesday.”
