Not Angry Andersson any more

-

SWEDEN coach Janne Andersson has stopped shouting at his players and hopes it will help them charge past Ukraine tonight.

The Swedes landed in Glasgow yesterday for their last-16 tie but say the decision to play in Scotland, with only a few thousand fans present, is “weird”.

Andersson admits the days of bossing his players around and getting in their faces are over, even though he has used the hairdryer technique in the past.

Sweden topped Group E with two wins plus a draw against Spain and have a chance to progress against Andriy Shevchenko’s side.

Andersson said: “I have stopped yelling at people because I don’t feel they get better being yelled at.

“I want to explain how to improve and where they go wrong. Of course I can get annoyed. I show when I am unhappy but to yell, I don’t like that.”

Swedish skipper Seb Larsson is unhappy about the game being played at Hampden with only a 12,000 capacity.

He said: “It is a bit strange, a bit weird. We won’t get as many Swedish fans as we’d like.”

Andersson agrees. He said: “It is strange they hosted the game where our fans are not allowed to come. My view is it is the wrong decision.”

Ukraine boss Shevchenko says his side will leave nothing on the pitch tonight to reach the last eight.

He said: “We travelled a long way to be here.

“We achieved the result we wanted. We have nothing to lose now. Everything else will be a big bonus for us.

“We played a good group stage, particularly against the Dutch.”
