Your armchair guide to Great Brits at the Tokyo Games

THE greatest show on earth starts tomorrow when the Tokyo 2020 Olympics opening ceremony takes place.

There are 17 days, 33 sports, and 339 events, with Team GB again looking to make history after a record-breaking Rio Games.

We have taken our biggest team ever to Japan, with more women than men for the first time.

The BBC will be bringing live coverage across BBC TV, BBC iPlayer, radio and online.

TOMORROW

Olympic opening ceremony. Midday: In 2016, Japan’s then-Prime Minister Shinzo Abe dressed up as Mario for a Nintendo-inspired handover ceremony at the Rio Olympics. She is the youngest ever summer Team GB Olympian. 09:45-10:15: Men’s cycling team pursuit: Ed Clancy, who helped Britain to Olympic pursuit gold at the past three Games, is back. Denmark won the last world title in record time. 11:00-13:40: Ben Maher could be among the contenders for GB at showjumpin­g. 07:30-08:00: Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark took 470-class sailing silver in London then went one better in Rio four years later. Mills won the world title with new partner Eilidh McIntyre in 2019 and will be hoping Wednesday’s medal race brings home another Olympic gold.
