Rob and Romesh flip out
Sky One, 9pm THE sight of Romesh Ranganathan squeezed into a gymnastics leotard, trying to spin around a giant mushroom with his feet in a bucket, isn’t something you’ll forget.
He and Rob Beckett take on Olympic sports in this series, desperately trying to find at least one that they’re good at. Needless to say, they’re useless at everything, but this niche TV they’ve carved out – trying and failing at various professions – is laugh-out-loud funny.
In part one, they had a nightmare with weightlifting, hockey and slalom canoeing.
This time they try clay pigeon shooting, gymnastics and athletics, with help, as always, from experts.
They’re very excited to meet Max
Whitlock, a British gymnast with five Olympic medals to his name. “He’s got mad flex,” says Rob. “He’s bendy, he’s ripped and he’s a nice guy.”
Max is bewildered and mostly laughing as the comics try vaulting (“Nope, absolutely not”), cartwheeling with mixed results and trampolining, which Rob describes as “too bouncy”.
On the athletics track, Denise
Lewis coaches them in some throwing events, including javelin and shot put, with the unfortunate result that Romesh nearly takes the athlete out with a discus.
Finally, they head to the home of Team GB’s elite shooting squad, where Aaron Heading and Georgina Roberts stupidly hand them guns.
“I played a lot of Call of Duty over lockdown?” Rob ventures… time for everyone to duck and run for cover.
