DONS WILL BE THEREALTEST

- BY ANTHONY BROWN

PETER PAWLETT knows Dundee United’s first real test will come against his old side Aberdeen in their Premiership opener.

The hitman netted twice to help Tam Courts’ men to four straight Premier Sports Cup wins.

Pawlett, 30 said: “The relationships within the squad are good and the boys are gelling together.

“We’ve made a positive start but we’ll be judged on the first game of the season against Aberdeen – that’s the big test.

“It’s a great game to start with and one we’re really looking forward to.

“Hopefully there’ll be some fans in the stadium to add to the atmosphere.

“Playing for Aberdeen for so many years adds something to it for me but, at the end of the day, it’s all about Dundee United, trying to get the three points and a good start to the league season.

“I’m sure both camps are looking for that but we’ve made a positive start and it’s all about us. We’ll make sure we have a good week on the training field leading up to it.”

Pawlett has linked up with his old Dons buddy Charlie Mulgrew at Tannadice this season and added: “I’m really enjoying playing with him again.

“I played with him at Aberdeen as I was breaking into the team and remember him well.

“It’s all change now – back then we were both a lot younger, now we’re the old heads trying to help the young boys coming through here!

“He’s been really good, he’s brought experience and he is still a top player.

“He’s an internationalist, a great character who brings a calmness on the ball.”
