Friday nights are ‘teas on our knees’ Gemma Hunt

-

TV presenter Gemma Hunt, 39, spends her weekends enjoying quality family time with her husband Phil and their four-year-old daughter.

We love to spend time as a family at the weekend because the week is always so busy. Friday nights are our “teas on knees” evenings. We call it that because we sit and watch telly with our dinner. We like to wind down and we generally watch something that my daughter wants to watch.

With a four-year-old, we don’t usually get the luxury of a lie-in on a Saturday. She goes to theatre school, so we get her up and into her ballet gear first thing. She’s there for a couple of hours, which gives me and my husband a good opportunity to get stuff done. We either do all the cleaning, or go for a wander and find a nice coffee shop and have a chat so that we have a bit of time to reconnect.

We’re fortunate enough to live by the coast. We either go to the beach or we have lots of wonderful woodland around us that’s great for walks.

If it’s a miserable day, we’re often in the kitchen cooking some treats. We like to make cupcakes – my daughter is really good at icing them with funky patterns. In the evening, we’ll make fresh popcorn and have hot chocolate and watch a family film.

We’re a family of Christians so we go to church on a Sunday. My husband helps run the children’s group, so he’ll take our daughter there. And because of my presenting experience, I get a chance to host our live services. It’s really fun.

I love making a Sunday roast. I always make Yorkshire puddings from scratch. In the evening, I make sure the school uniform is ready and my husband’s shirts are ironed, then I just check my diary and chill out before the week ahead. ●Gemma supports Belvoir Farm’s Elderflower Harvest.
