Sophie (Ruby Barnhill) is snatched from her bed by a 24ft-tall figure, who introduces himself as the Big Friendly Giant (Mark Rylance). A friendship is forged between Sophie and her kind-hearted abductor, who is bullied by fellow giants. To rid Giant Country of these man-gobblers, Sophie hatches a scheme to visit The Queen (Penelope Wilton). Gloriumptious rendering of Roald Dahl’s fantasy. (2016) *****
MICKEY AND THE BEAR FILM4, 10.50PM
Premiere. Writer-director Annabelle Attanasio’s coming-of-age drama stars Camila Morrone as the titular Mickey, a talented high-school student, who dreams of getting out of her small Montana town. The main thing standing in her way is her widowed father Hank (James Badge Dale), an Iraq veteran who is reliant on prescription drugs – and his teenage daughter. (2019) ****
THE WOLF OF WALL STREET ITV4, 10PM
In the aftermath of Black Monday, Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) loses his job on Wall Street and opens his own firm, Stratton Oakmont. The dodgy business goes from strength to strength but attracts the attention of FBI agent Patrick Denham (Kyle Chandler), who resolves to bring Belfort down. Director Martin Scorsese pulls no punches in his depiction of Belfort’s wild excesses. (2013) ****
I AM NOT A WITCH FILM4, 11.15PM
The debut feature film from Zambian-born, Welshraised writer-director Rungano Nyoni isn’t easy to categorise. Maggie Mulubwa stars as Shula, a young girl accused of being a witch. She’s sent to a witch camp, where the man in charge, Mr Banda (Henry BJ Phiri) decides to exploit her powers for profit. The movie was inspired by Nyoni’s experiences of visiting a real witch camp. (2017) ***
HELLBOY ITV4, 9PM
Demon Hellboy (Ron Perlman), raised by the Nazis in the final days of World War II but weaned from the dark side by paranormal expert John Hurt, joins a team fighting present-day fascist sorcery. The hero juggles the demands of his role with his attempts to woo fragile friend Liz (Selma Blair). Acclaimed director Guillermo del Toro remains fairly faithful to the comic-book. (2004) ***
