A TEENAGER arrested over the hit-and-run death of 18-year-old Aidan Pilkington is a Celtic B team player.

Aidan, who had been due to start university this month, died on Saturday after he was hit by a car.

Police detained a man aged 19 and have released him pending inquiries.

A CELTIC B Team player has been arrested in connection with the alleged hit and run death of teenager Aidan Pilkington.

Aidan was killed after being hit by a car on Crow Road in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Tributes were paid to the “well-loved” 18-year-old, who was due to move to Dundee to go to university.

Police confirmed a 19-year-old had been arrested in connection with the incident and had been released pending further inquiries.

The teenager arrested is a player for Celtic’s B Team and starred in their victory over Gala Fairydean Rovers a few days ago.

His profile remains on the club’s website as part of their reserves squad.

A source close to the player’s family said: “He is trying to keep himself to himself while this is ongoing.

“The fact his gran didn’t even know he’d been arrested over the death of another teenager shows just how closely he’s keeping his cards to his chest.

“He’ll be keeping his head down as best he can until the police investigation is finished.”

Aidan was struck by a car at about 12.20am on Crow Road, and was rushed to hospital where he tragically passed away.

The vehicle involved was later traced by police.

Colleagues of the tragic victim, who worked at McDonald’s on Crow Road, have raised more than £10,000 to support his grieving family. Their GoFundMe page read: “RIP Aidan, we will all miss you and you’ll be forever in our hearts.”

Sergeant Scott Sutherland from Road Policing said: “The car involved has now been traced and a 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with this incident.

“He’s been released pending further investigation.

“We would like to thank everyone who has got in touch with us so far regarding the appeal and urge anyone who has information, but has yet to contact us, to call 101 quoting incident reference number 0120 of 11 Sept 21.”

Celtic did not respond to our request for comment.
