Tragic Sam’s mum in knife crime plea
A MUM who lost her only child when he was stabbed to death has urged young people to report information on knife-carrying in their communities.
Lynn Burns, whose son Sam Johnston, 22, was murdered in 2013 in Saltcoats, Ayrshire, has recorded a heartbreaking podcast as part of a campaign launched yesterday by Fearless.org.
She said: “What would I say to any young person wanting to carry a knife or weapon? Please don’t.
“I understand there’s a feeling that if you carry a weapon, if you carry a knife, that somehow that’s going to protect yourself.
“But what we know to be true in many cases is the knife is used against you. To hurt you. Carrying a weapon puts you at risk.”
