My kids could’ve died in deliberate flat fire
Mum still in ‘shock’ after young sons are rescued from blaze
A MUM is still “in shock” after her kids were rescued from a potentially fatal deliberate flat fire.
Joanne Morgan’s two sons Danyl, 11, and Oliver, nine, were pulled from a blaze at their dad’s flat in Auchinleck, Ayrshire.
Her ex-husband was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation after the incident, which took place at about 4.45am on September 4.
Firebugs had set alight a bunch of wooden items at the front door of the flat on Arran Drive, barricading the only entrance and exit.
Firefighters managed to smash their way in and rescue the children and their dad.
Joanne, who also lives in Auchinleck, was told about it by two firemen who came to her door.
However, her boys have been gripped by fear due to the fire.
Both are sleeping in the same room and have planned an escape route from their own home in case it happens again.
Joanne, 33, told the Record how wooden items were placed against the flat door and set alight in the late night incident.
She added: “My kids were very shaken by the ordeal. When I first heard about what happened, I could not believe it, I think I’m still in shock, I don’t think it has fully sunk in yet.
“When they came home that night, they planned an escape route just in case it happened again. No weans should ever have to think how am I going to get out of here if something happens, it’s just awful.”
It was the second deliberate blaze in Auchinleck that night.
Police were called to a shed fire on Church Street at about 4.25am.
Detective Sergeant Sarah Holland said: “Thankfully no one was seriously injured as a result of these incidents. There is nothing to suggest these incidents are linked but inquiries are ongoing.”
