Big John’s tears of a champion

-

JOHN HENDERSON feels privileged to have delivered a World Cup to Scotland on the best night of his life.

The Highlander produced the darts of his career to partner Peter Wright to the title.

After over a decade on the circuit, it was Henderson’s first PDC title and the popular Scot left in floods of tears.

He said: “I’ve had a couple of finals, umpteen semi-finals. For my first PDC title to be a Major and a World Cup, I can’t put it into words how I feel.

“I’m just so honoured and privileged. Peter is an absolute legend. I said all my life I wouldn’t cry. I’d watch people winning and think: ‘Why would you cry?’

“I now understand why, it means everything to players and I’m not shy or bothered about saying I had a tear in my eye.

“Peter’s done it with two different people. It shows how good he is. He looked after me and his captaincy won us the World Cup.”

Wright hit the winning shot in the Final triumph over Austria and said: “Winning it with John is incredible.

“He’s shown he can do it under pressure. This is the start. ‘World champions’ has a good ring to it!”
