DADPOOLDADPOOL
He’s all for cheering people up after the struggles of pandemic
HE IS known as the motormouthed superhero who turns the air blue with a crude quip as he bashes baddies. But it seems that Deadpool is on a mission to clean up his act by doing good deeds. A mystery fan of the Marvel favourite has been dressed as the crimebuster while helping those in need in Lanarkshire. First he paid garden visits to sick children. Then he carried out Halloween deliveries at the height of the cornoavirus pandemic. Now the dad, who like most respectable heroes wants to keep his real identity secret, has vowed to carry on coming to the rescue. He said: “It’s been such a hard time for everyone in this pandemic. “I just want to make people smile and I can do that by visiting local youngsters who love Marvel and comics as much as I do.” The comic fan bought a Deadpool costume two years ago and had “toyed with the idea” of appearing at kids parties and charity events for free.
But the first lockdown in 2020 persuaded him to go for it. Deadpool began roaming the streets and soon caught the attention of locals.
As restrictions eased in summer, he was asked to appear at the birthday party of a relative’s son, which opened the floodgates.
“Through word of mouth I got more and more requests,” he said.
“Kids just love the costume, and a lot of the adults love it too, as Marvel is for all ages. I work 70 hours a week, with shifts up to 14 hours. But it’s worth it, I love making people happy.”
Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds played the character in movies including the X-Men series and Deadpool in 2016 and Deadpool 2 in 2019.
