Piers nut guilty

Morgan felt like giving Alex ‘Glasgow kiss’

- BY ASHLEIGH RAINBIRD

PIERS Morgan says he had to walk off Good Morning Britain’s set to avoid headbutting “deputy standin weather guy” Alex Beresford.

The pair were embroiled in a heated debate over Morgan’s comments about Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah, which received more than 50,000 complaints to Ofcom.

Morgan stepped down when ITV asked him to apologise and he refused, which he says he does not regret. But he admits he feels he should not have reacted as dramatically to Alex’s comments. “It was wrong,” he said at this week’s

TRIC awards. “I shouldn’t have walked off the show when I did... because the deputy stand-in weather guy says something annoying. I wasn’t quite in control of my faculties. It was either that or give him a Glasgow kiss.

“I decided that wouldn’t go down very well.”

Morgan hasn’t spoken to Alex since because, he added, “he was annoying enough when I worked with him – why would I bother now?”

Alex previously said he wished Piers well but that the pair “have to agree to disagree” over Meghan’s interview.

Yesterday, Morgan announced he was set to return to TV – with a new show, billed for early 2022 – in part of a global deal.

He told his Twitter followers the programme, which will air on talkTV in the UK, USA and Australia, will be an “adventure”.

And Morgan admitted he now doesn’t watch GMB “often”, adding: “One of the privileges of not doing it is I haven’t got to get out of bed that early.

“I don’t watch it that often. If they’ve got something big, I’ll watch it – I want them to be successful.

“It’s a show I put my heart and soul into for five years – you don’t want it to fail.

“Obviously it’s a different show without me – they have to try and somehow struggle through.”
