Milly’s family deserve justice

-

MILLY Main’s death at a Glasgow hospital should be enough to fill anyone with tears of rage.

The 10-year-old was a cancer patient at the Royal Hospital for Children and on the mend. In remission from leukaemia, she was looking forward to going home with her family.

But her catheter became infected and she died at the hospital.

It took brave whistleblowers to lift the lid on this terrible NHS scandal.

They told Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar water-linked infections in children’s cancer wards went back further than previously thought.

They also said one of the children affected had died after contracting an infection at the hospital, which sits on the site of the Queen Elizabeth University hospital in the city.

Milly’s mum Kimberly read our story in the Daily Record and immediately knew it was her daughter – and she was right.

An official probe later confirmed Milly had “probably” died after catching an infection at the hospital in 2017.

The treatment of Milly’s family by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has been a disgrace. Kimberly should not have to read about the circumstances of her daughter’s death in a newspaper – it should have been spelled out by doctors.

This appalling case has taken a darker turn, given police are now investigating the death. Milly’s family need to know exactly what happened to their daughter and if there was a cover up.

If anyone behaved criminally, then they should be held accountable.

The time for silence is over – justice is long overdue.
