Klopp has turned referees against United

Ole says he’s reason for no spot-kicks

- OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER has accused Jurgen Klopp of turning referees against Manchester United. MANCHESTER UTD v ASTON VILLA DAVID McDONNELL

Liverpool boss Klopp complained at the number of penalties awarded to United, with Solskjaer claiming referees are now reluctant to give them spot-kicks.

Solskjaer felt Cristiano Ronaldo should have been awarded three penalties in United’s 2-1 win at West Ham last week, but none were given.

United boss Solskjaer, above, pointed the finger of blame squarely at Klopp, above right, and said: “Last season there was a certain manager worried about us getting penalties.

“After that, it seems the decisions have been more difficult to give.

“I’ve seen a big, big difference since then. We have to leave it up to the refs and hopefully they’ll make the right calls very soon.

“We have to hope we get what we deserve. We should have had three penalties in the last two games. But as I said earlier, there’s been a shift since concerns were raised by another manager on how many penalties we get.

“We keep on playing. I don’t think it’s my job to talk about the referees, but of course we have to keep playing and you get the decisions you deserve.”

Solskjaer, meanwhile, has called on his United forwards to ease the goal burden on Cristiano Ronaldo.

Since returning to United, Ronaldo has scored four goals in three games and is set to lead the attack against Aston Villa at Old Trafford today.

Ronaldo’s formidable form means Solskjaer cannot start games without the 36-year-old superstar.

But the United boss has warned his other attackers – Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood,

Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial – they must chip in with goals to help out.

Asked if Ronaldo can shoulder the burden of scoring alone, Solskjaer said: “No, of course not.

“Jesse has two, Mason has three, Bruno has four and Cristiano has four, which is a good return from the forwards.

“Marcus [Rashford] has yet to come back, of course and Anthony, Jadon [Sancho], Edinson [Cavani], they will score goals.

“It has to be spread around, that’s for sure. Paul [Pogba] will score goals too. It’s been a long long time since we’ve had one main 30 or 40 goals-a-year striker.

“But if you can get that and the others can get up to that expected tally as well, then we have got a good chance.”
